Venue Service Engineers

Reports to: General Manager

We are looking for capable and versatile Venue Service Engineers for BBC Earth Experience. This will be a first of its kind immersive natural history event, which will allow audiences of all ages to observe, interact with and celebrate planet Earth’s biodiversity. Using state of the art projection technology, visitors will travel the world, in a majestic 360-degree journey through every continent, on a scale never seen before.

We are looking for someone resourceful with a positive, can-do attitude who will be able to react quickly and rise to the challenges posed by maintaining a live event venue. In this role, you will be working for Moon Eye Productions, who are the show producers and Live Nation, the world’s leading live entertainment and events company.

The venue will be open seven days a week, for a minimum of eight hours a day. You will be part of a team of Service Engineers supporting the running of the venue.

Position Overview:

As an all-round Service Engineer focusing on projection, LED, media servers, audio, lights and basic network/IT technology, you will be responsible for the operation of equipment in the public environment, ensuring everything runs smoothly and dealing quickly and competently with issues as they arise.

The ability to prioritise, work efficiently and proactively, implement, and deliver well thought out technical work, either standalone or as a team leader, is paramount to the Service Engineer's role.

Key Responsibilities

● Monitoring and maintenance of installed equipment, preferably you will join during the installation period to witness the setup of the system.
● Liaising with the production team to ensure the delivery of the content to visitors is as desired.

● Adherence to current Health & Safety legislation and working practices, including PPE use.

● Develop a proficient ability to operate, as required, the other parts of the inhouse technical systems including HVAC, plumbing, power etc.

● Working closely with the Production team, Operations team and Health & Safety consultant to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the site;

● Managing fencing and the site boundary;

● Responsible for booking all delivery slots and managing deliveries for any additional equipment required in the execution of your duties;

● Managing all control rooms and storage areas;

● Managing all plant requirements and upkeep;

● Assisting with inductions;

● Playing a key role in enforcing Health & Safety and good practice on site;

● Liaising with external contractors re: issues arising in relation to the technical operation

of the venue;

● Manage record keeping for relevant equipment and areas, e.g. plant and infrastructure.

● Overseeing any general maintenance and managing external contractors as required;

● Carrying out fixes and repairs as required.

● Implement control room start-up and shutdown procedures utilising pre-programmed

states for video projection and LED, lighting and audio.

● Manage any technical issues with video projection and LED, lighting or audio systems following the agreed venue procedures.

Personal Specification

● Strong and confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills

● A solid team player

● Excellent understanding of technical equipment with a drive to learn new or unfamiliar systems.

● Ability to work logically and systematically.

● Proactive and self-motivated; ability to use initiative.

Skills / Qualifications

● Exceptional time management with the ability to prioritise workload and adhere to deadlines.

● Basic knowledge of Projection systems

● Basic IT/Network knowledge

● Basic knowledge of entertainment lighting systems

● Basic knowledge of entertainment audio systems

● Problem-Solving skills; ability to think strategically and implement robust, stable solutions.

● Relevant industry experience, specific equipment training will be provided)

● A minimum of 5 GCSE passes at grade C or above (including Maths and English), A- levels, or equivalent qualification.

Desirable:

● Basic knowledge of Media servers (Specific Pixera and Disguise)

● Basic knowledge of ROE visual LED screens based on the MVR platform

Educate & Assist

BBC Earth Experience will not only celebrate the beauty of life on each of the seven continents, but also highlight the many challenges faced by nature in a modern world. David Attenborough will narrate the breathtaking footage from the BBC Studios Natural History Unit. You’ll be on our team to accompany the visitors on their 360 degree audio visual journey, as they roam free through the zones across the experience.

Role profiles

> Front of House Operatives: £14.01ph (£12.50ph + £1.51ph Holiday Pay)

Our front of house team will be responsible for ensuring an unforgettable visitor experience from the point of arrival and throughout their time at the venue. The front of house team will be responsible for delivering our box office and ushering services. Front of house operatives will report to the front of house supervisor.

The role will include but not be limited to:

  • Welcoming customers to the venue

  • Answering customer enquiries via email and phone

  • Scanning tickets

  • Managing queues and entrance into the experience, working quickly to minimise wait times

  • Processing payments

  • Answering visitors questions and queries about the show & venue facilities

  • To inspire visitors’ interest by sharing knowledge and key experience related information

  • Assist visitors with locker use

  • Supporting the FOH Supervisor in ensuring the visitor numbers are monitored and safety protocols are followed at all times (including monitoring fire exits)

  • Directing visitors through the experience

> Front of House (FOH)

Leading the team, our Supervisor will be responsible for the day to day support and supervision of our front of house team. Supervisors will report directly to the venue manager or deputy manager.

The role will include but not be limited to: 

  • Leading the team to deliver the best possible customer service experience

  • Overseeing staff training & welfare

  • Manage team breaks, organising shifts and rota adjustments

  • Deal with queries, and manage feedback from visitors

  • Work with other departments to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment

  • Overseeing daily administration

  • Overall responsibility for safe and efficient operation of the on site box office

  • Undertaking front of house duties as required

  • Continuously demonstrate inclusive behaviours, valuing everyone’s contribution, and promoting a culture of openness

> Accessibility Support Supervisor

Our accessibility support supervisor is there to ensure the BBC Earth Experience is an experience anyone can enjoy. Specialist training will be provided for this role. Previous experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential.

The role will include but not be limited to:

  • Supporting visitors with accessibility requirements through the BBC Earth Experience

  • Ensuring visitors with additional accessibility requirements are treated with care and respect

  • Providing supervisory support across the wider front of house team as required

Customer Service Manager

We are looking for a Customer Service Manager for BBC Earth Experience. This will be a first of its kind immersive natural history event, which will allow audiences of all ages to observe, interact with and celebrate planet Earth’s biodiversity. Using state of the art projection technology, visitors will travel the world, in a majestic 360-degree journey through every continent, on a scale never seen before. 

We are looking for someone resourceful with a positive, can-do attitude who will be able to react quickly and rise to the challenges posed by live event.  In this role, you will be working for Moon Eye Productions, who are the show producers and Live Nation, the world’s leading live entertainment and events company. 

The venue will be open seven days a week, for a minimum of eight hours a day. You will be responsible for keeping on top of all incoming customer emails, which will sometimes require working evenings/weekends. 

Position Overview:

We are hiring a Customer Service Manager to manage customer queries and complaints. You will also be asked to process house orders and escalate complaints across several communication channels. To do well in this role, you will naturally put the customer first and need to be able to remain calm when guests are disappointed or frustrated. You will be data-focused and use that skill to help improve the experience for future guests. 

The Customer Service Manager is an integral role for BBC Earth Experience.  This role will be the main point of contact between the event and the customer, so excellent communication will be essential. 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward customers always.

  • Responding promptly to customer inquiries.

  • Communicating with customers through various channels, including emails, social media and in person

  • Acknowledging and resolving customer complaints.

  • Knowing BBC Earth Experience and The Daikin Centre inside and out, so that you can answer questions.

  • Keeping record of customer interactions, transactions, comments, and complaints. Using this data and the learnings to improve the experience for future guests. 

  • Communicating and coordinating with colleagues as necessary, especially in the marketing, social and PR teams. 

  • Providing feedback on the efficiency of the customer service process.

  • Ensure customer satisfaction and provide professional customer support.

You will be responsible for the creation of all activity packs and teacher guides and make sure they are up to date.  You will also lead in the outreach to schools to entice them to attend. 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Creating new and detailed course material and resources 

  • Networking with potential clients and promoting the company at exhibition events 

  • Liaising with schools/teachers to ensure they receive excellent customer service 

  • Working as part of the wider team to assist the smooth running of the company processes 

  • Managing the education team and the outreach.

Personal Specification

  • Experience of working as a teacher or tutor in educational settings is desirable but not essential 

  • Enthusiasm for communicating with and supporting school communities 

  • Excellent written communications skills with attention to detail 

  • A solid team player 

  • Proactive and self-motivated; ability to use initiative.
